One of the courses completed when I was with BTCV was Winter Tree ID. This involved looking at the habitat of the tree, bark, the shape of the tree, pith, leaf/seed litter, and buds on the twigs and their pattern.
I am looking forward to spring and summer where I can see the colour, full shape and pattern of leaves out in the field to improve my tree identification skills.
